Temperature in the salt or freshwater aquarium is a key contributor to stability and fish health. In saltwater, as soon as we reach 80 degrees, oxygen levels in water begin to drop like a brick. Every degree above 80 is more and more dangerous and can prove fatal to fish and almost certainly will cause fish aggression, disease and stress.
With todays saltwater aquarium frequently using intense lights and numerous pumps for water flow, these temperatures often rise above 80. Additionally, with the change from summer to fall, home furnaces also add to aquarium heat.
Be sure to keep an eye on your aquarium temperature with a conveniently located glass or digital thermometer. If you notice temps getting to or above 80 degrees, be sure to speak with your Blue Planet Field Tech or contact me for assisitance.
