Room Divider Aquariums: Some Considerations

Room divider aquariums are about the most fun you can have with an aquarium, architecturally speaking. For those who are interested, these unique aquariums do require some special considerations. Here are some things to keep in mind as you plan out your room divider tank.

Adequate wall width is the first important thing to keep in mind with a room divider aquarium, in that most walls dividing two rooms will usually only be 4 to 6 inches wide. Your aquarium should be no less than 18 inches (in most cases) in order to have room to decorate and give the fish some space to swim, as well as having more surface area to de-gas carbon dioxide and allow oxygen back into the water. So, the first step to being able to have a room divider aquarium is finding a dividing wall with the adequate thickness to let you install an 18 inch thick tank.

Secondly, because the tank is embedded into the wall, you’ll need to make sure that the installation successfully embeds not only the tank but also all necessary auxiliary equipment into the wall, and does so in a way that is efficient and where all equipment can easily be reached for maintenance and repair purposes.
