As we enter 2016, let’s take a look at a few exciting aquarium trends that are on our radar and that we’re excited to see growing in popularity this year.
Equipment connectivity—maintaining an aquarium involves a variety of instruments that work together to make sure your tank is properly heated, filtered, and lit. Until now, this work has been done by tools that work independently of each other. Recently, a variety of new manufacturers have been rolling out pieces of equipment that interface with a computer or mobile app to allow 24/7 remote monitoring and control of the specifics in your aquarium. Needless to say, this is very exciting.
Emphasis on sustainability—the aquarium industry has always had issues with sustainability. Usually, the way this works is that a party in a third world nation where the laws are more lax will export endangered species that are in turn bought up by eager aquarium enthusiasts worldwide (who may or may not know about the fish’s problematic past or endangered status). As of late, many aquarium groups and vendors have been shedding light on this problem in order to educate aquarium consumers. With more information, the demand that supports these illegal activities should taper off.
Nano-aquariums—we wrote about this trend last year too, and we’re happy to see it continuing. Nano aquariums are the perfect low-maintenance option for children interested in the hobby, or even for enthusiasts who may have a complex setup at home but need something cool and easy to maintain at their office desk to get them through the day.
In all, 2016 is looking like it will be an exciting year for the aquarium industry, and we’re excited to be a part of it all. If this is the year you want to install a new aquarium or update your current tank, get in touch with Blue Planet Aquarium to get started.
